House of Light
House of Light is an experimental work and experience in contemporary art and architecture conceived by American artist James Turrell that has no parallel anywhere in the world.
Guests can experience the artist’s creation through an overnight stay.
It was conceived as a guesthouse for meditation;
Turrell took inspiration from Junichiro Tanizaki’s essay “In Praise of Shadows”.
He sought to incorporate his media and light with the traditional usage of light in Japanese houses.
Staying in House of Light you will be surrounded by various forms of light,
and amid the beautiful natural surroundings of Echigo Tsumari.
Notes:Internet access available.
