Art Stroll (Nohbutai & Castle Ruin)
One place you can see many Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale exhibitions is Nohbutai, which is at the heart of the Matsudai Snow Country Agriculture Center.
During a 30-60 minute walking course, there are many beautiful artworks to be seen on the satoyama, located on the opposite bank of the Shibumi River. If you’d like to up the ante a bit, the area around the Castle Ruins Park Campsite has lots of artworks dotted along the scenery.

Matsunoyama Onsen
Legend has it that the Matsunoyama Onsen was discovered over 700 years ago when a lumberjack noticed a falcon consistently going to the same spot among the forests. This hot spring is one of Japan’s top 3 medicinal onsen along with Kusatsu and Arima. In the scenic Matsunoyama Onsen Village are souvenir shops, delicious restaurants, and foot baths among others. Relax all your travel stress away when you step into the hot springs of Matsunoyama.

Hiking Tour of Bijinbayashi
This guided tour takes place in Bijinbayashi, or “Beauty Forest” in English, which was named such for the hundreds of tall, slender beech trees in these woods. Become one with nature as you assimilate among the wildlife and fresh air as the tour guide takes you through the trees.
