■ About the Art Triennale
The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale is one of the world’s leading international art festivals that takes places once every three years. With the cooperation of world-renowned artists, area residents, and supporting groups, artworks are exhibited in abandoned houses, former school buildings, and even amongst the satoyama nature landscapes.
As you go around visiting artworks, you’ll be able to easily see the beautiful rice terraces, the Kiyotsu Gorge and others. You’ll also discover the many charms of Tokamachi, including the national treasure of the flame-style pottery that is the cornerstone of Tokamachi’s history and culture. Don’t forget to try out koshihikari rice and hegisoba!
